Please read this before you buy. The 997 Chrono is an enthusiast product, made in small numbers for people who enjoy working on their own cars. Fitting it and using it is at your own risk.
⚠️ Summary. This is an aftermarket accessory, not a Porsche part and not a safety device. You are fitting electronics to your own car, and everything that follows from that — the fitting, the wiring, and what you choose to do with the information on screen — is your responsibility. If you’re not comfortable with making modifications to your car, this is not the product for you.
It’s not a safety device
The display is a supplementary instrument. It shows information read from your car’s CAN bus and from its own sensors, and it is intended for interest and convenience.
It does not replace your vehicle’s own gauges, warning lights or diagnostic systems, and you must not rely on it alone. Readings can be affected by sensor tolerances, vehicle wiring, configuration settings and firmware behaviour. If your car’s own instruments indicate a problem, believe them — and if you suspect a fault with your vehicle, stop and have it checked properly.
Never let the display distract you from driving. Set it up before you set off, not on the move.
Installation is your responsibility
On cars with the factory Sports Chrono option, fitting is plug-and-play using the original wiring, needs no cutting or soldering, and is fully reversible. That said, you are still working inside your own dashboard, and you do so at your own risk.
You are responsible for working safely, following our installation guide, and for any damage caused during fitting or removal. If you are not confident, please have it fitted by a qualified auto electrician — or don’t fit it at all. We’re always happy to talk the process through with you or your garage beforehand.
Airbags and secure fitting
The Sports Chrono pod sits on the dash top, near the passenger airbag. Please take this seriously:
- Do not obstruct the passenger airbag, its cover or its deployment path.
- Do not cut, modify or weaken the airbag cover or its seams.
- Make sure the pod is fully clipped home and secure before you drive. A pod that is loose, or that fouls a deploying airbag, can become a projectile in a collision.
- If you are retrofitting and cutting the dashboard, keep well clear of the airbag and its deployment area. If you are in any doubt at all, stop and take professional advice.
Retrofits: irreversible, and entirely at your risk
Fitting to a car that never had the Sports Chrono option means sourcing the Porsche pod parts, splicing into vehicle wiring, and cutting an aperture in your dashboard. That cut cannot be undone.
Our retrofit guide is offered in good faith to help owners who have decided to go ahead. It is not an instruction to do so, and we accept no responsibility for damage to your vehicle, its wiring or its trim arising from retrofit work. Satisfy yourself that you can complete the job — or find someone who can — before you start cutting.
Compatibility, laws and regulations
It is your responsibility to check that the product suits your vehicle before ordering — the details are on each product page and in our FAQs, and we’ll gladly advise if you ask.
It is also your responsibility to make sure that fitting and using the product complies with the law where you live, and with the terms of your vehicle insurance, warranty or lease. Rules on dashboard modifications and in-car displays vary between countries, and we can’t advise on them. Modifications may need to be declared to your insurer.
Content you choose to display
The product lets you load your own clock faces, splash screens and background images. You are responsible for what you upload and for making sure it doesn’t infringe anyone’s copyright or trade marks. We have no control over what any user chooses to display on their unit, and images shown in our photography are often user-created examples rather than items supplied with the product.
What we do stand behind
Everything above is about how the product is fitted and used. The product itself is a different matter, and we don’t hide behind small print:
- Every unit carries a one-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.
- We offer 90-day no-quibble returns if it simply isn’t for you.
- Your statutory rights are unaffected. If you buy as a consumer, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 entitles you to goods that are of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. Nothing on this page changes that.
- We do not exclude liability where the law does not allow it — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or under the Consumer Protection Act 1987.
Subject to those points, and to the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss, damage or injury arising from: installation or removal carried out by you or on your behalf; failure to follow our instructions, guides or warnings; use of the product in a way we have not recommended; modification of the hardware; or reliance on the information the display shows. Full detail is in our terms and conditions of sale.
